Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I choose Rivas Medical Weight Loss over another clinic or just buy the medication online?

At Rivas Medical Weight Loss, we offer a comprehensive, patient-centered approach to weight management that goes far beyond simply providing medication. Losing weight is a multifactorial process that requires expertise, personalized care, and ongoing support to achieve sustainable results. Here’s what sets us apart:

Expert Care: With decades of experience and a team of dedicated providers, we specialize in medical weight loss. Our expertise ensures that your treatment plan is safe, effective, and tailored to your unique needs.

Accountability and Support: Unlike online pharmacies or DIY programs, we provide weekly in-person or telehealth check-ins, offering weigh-ins, side effect management, and guidance to keep you on track.

Premium Service: We handle every detail for you, including personalized dosing, expert coaching, and proactive adjustments to your plan. This is not a one-size-fits-all approach—it's a white glove service designed for your success.

Safe and Regulated Medications: We only source medications from FDA-regulated, 503A and 503B pharmacies in the USA. These medications are third-party tested for potency, purity, and sterility, so you can trust the quality and safety of what you’re taking.

Choosing Rivas Medical Weight Loss means choosing a trusted partner in your weight loss journey. We’re here to help you achieve real results with the guidance and care you deserve.

Do you take insurance?

We do not accept insurance, as most weight loss medications and services are not covered. However, we provide itemized receipts that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. Additionally, we accept Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) at all our locations.

What happens in a weekly visit?

During your weekly visit, you’ll meet with our staff to monitor your progress, address any challenges, and adjust your treatment plan as needed. This may include checking vital signs, administering weight loss injections and/or vitamin injections, and providing personalized support to help you stay on track with your goals.

Do I have to come in every week?

We highly encourage weekly visits to maximize accountability and ensure the best results. However, we understand that weekly visits may not be feasible for everyone. For your convenience, we can send you home with medication, and we also offer telehealth services for those who live farther away or have time constraints.

How do you know your compounded medications are safe and effective?

We partner exclusively with 503A and 503B reputable pharmacies in the USA. These pharmacies are state-licensed and/or FDA-inspected and regulated. All compounded medications are third-party tested to ensure they meet the highest standards for purity, potency, and sterility. We are committed to providing medications that are safe and effective for our patients.

Are there any contracts or commitments?

The majority of our patients participate in a pay-as-you-go model with no long-term contracts. The closest thing to a commitment is our GLP-1 Support Program service and telehealth program, which require payment for 4 weeks upfront. You are free to stay in the program as long as it suits your needs and goals.

Do you have telehealth?

Yes, we offer telehealth services for patients in Maryland, Virginia, and Florida. Telehealth operates on a monthly basis and includes real-time video consultations. This allows us to provide the same high-quality care, guidance, and adjustments to your treatment plan remotely.

Do I need pre-authorization?

No pre-authorization is required to start our program, as we do not process insurance. We strive to make the process simple and seamless so you can begin your weight loss journey without any delays.

What is GLP-1 Support Program?

GLP-1 Support Program is a premium service designed for patients whose insurance covers their branded weight loss medications but who want the comprehensive care that only Rivas Medical Weight Loss provides. These medications require close monitoring, as weight loss is a multifactorial process best supported by weekly in-person meetings. Our program offers weekly weigh-ins, accountability, side effect management, and expert support to optimize your results.
While a primary care doctor can write a prescription for weight loss medication, their care often ends there. At Rivas Medical Weight Loss, we provide a "white glove" service, managing every aspect of your journey. Standard primary care doesn’t have the time or resources to support and guide you through the complexities of losing 30 to 170 pounds—but we do.
